Scott: “The first thing we do is sit down with the buyers and interview each other. As they’re sizing us up, we’re listening to their goals and expectations to make sure we can really help them get what they want—and that we’ll be able to work with them successfully through the property search, the offer and negotiations, and all the way through escrow to their move, and even beyond.”
Jim: “What’s important is that it has to be a team approach. The buyers have to feel they can be comfortable with us, that they can trust us and communicate with us easily. We have to believe that they will be honest with us throughout the transaction. If we don’t think we’re the right team for the buyers, we’ll refer them to someone who might be a better fit.”
Scott: “We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. These days, with so much information available online, some buyers may have done a huge amount of homework before they ever call us. Others prefer to work face-to-face throughout the purchase. That’s fine with us; we work with buyers in the way that suits them best.”
Jim: “Buyers sometimes think they’re supposed to know all the answers before they come talk with us; they may be embarrassed to ask questions, especially if they’ve already owned property.”
Scott: “There’s no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to real estate!”
Jim: “Unfortunately, there’s also a lot of incorrect information out there. Buyers need facts, not rumors, so that’s a big part of our job.”
Scott: “We’d always much rather answer a question now than to find out later that the buyer was too embarrassed to ask it—or assumed they already knew the answer.”
Jim: “We want our buyers to be fully prepared before we start looking at properties.”
Scott: “That means knowing their needs, wants and ‘don’t-wants’ and making sure they are financially qualified by having proof of funds or a lender’s pre-approval. If they need a mortgage broker or a personal banker, we provide a short list of outstanding professionals to facilitate their home financing process. We also assist our clients with referrals to reputable vendors, such as contractors, handymen, electricians, plumbers, retailers, CPAs, attorneys, etc., to assist them in completing projects and remodels.”
Jim: “Once we know we can work together and we have all the essential facts, we outline a buying strategy specifically for that buyer. We don’t want to sell them just any home; we want them to find the right home, and to understand the process along the way.”
Scott: “We expect frequent and direct communication from our buyers and we let them know they should expect the same from us. If they like or don’t like something, we want to know. When they call us, we respond—and we expect the same from them. We give our buyers a lot of attention.”
Jim: “At the same time, we don’t waste their time, or money.”
Scott: “We represent buyers and sellers throughout Southern California, with a special focus on mid-range and estate properties in communities in the Coachella Valley such as Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Indian Wells and La Quinta.”
Jim: “We also have tremendous respect from our professional network of real estate agents, which means sometimes we can find a property for a client before it’s widely marketed.”
Scott: “What did we leave out?”
Jim: “Integrity? Sense of humor?”
Scott: “Oh, yeah. That’s probably the core of our philosophy: we will be honest with you. Always. We take our business very seriously, and we treat our buyers with great respect and courtesy and confidentiality. At the same time, we love to laugh and we find that some of our most successful transactions have been the ones where we were able to laugh with our clients. These are the clients that come back to us transaction after transaction.”
